Eligibility  Criteria for Generation Arts

Our exact eligibility can vary across projects depending on any funder requirements, but our general approach is to assess all applications on the distinct needs of each young person.

We support young people who haven’t previously had opportunities to access high quality acting and theatre-making training and who are passionate about developing as actors and theatre-makers, with a view to working professionally in this field.

To be eligible, young people must be aged 18-25 and at least one of the following criteria must be applicable:

• In receipt of benefits
• No prior full Level 3 qualifications
• Household income below 60% of the median household income
• Care Leaver
• Engaged with probation services
• Engaged in other statutory support services
• Referred by youth worker, advisor, social worker or other link professional working in statutory services or 3rd sector with young people
• or, you have other needs or specific circumstances not listed here

This list is not exhaustive and other personal circumstances will be taken into account, so applicants and referrers are advised to outline the specific need and circumstances when applying.

If you already have an undergraduate qualification it is unlikely you will be eligible for our training but under special circumstances we have occasionally worked with graduates, so tell us if you think you have a need for the project.

The application process step by step:

Step 1 – referrer or young person apply online / via email.

Step 2 – If application window is open, Generation Arts team draw up a shortlist of  applications which meet the eligibility criteria.

Step 3 – Generation Arts aim to speak with or meet with all applicants who are eligible to find out more about them, their ambitions and needs.

Step 4 – Based on our meeting, there will be one of two outcomes:

• Generation Arts will invite the young person to attend a taster session, masterclass, 1-1 meeting, or induction workshop (depending on the project).

or

• Generation Arts will signpost the young person to other provision more suited for their personalised needs.

Step 5 – after the young person attends a taster session, masterclass, 1-1 meeting, or induction workshop, Generation Arts will assess their personalised needs and their development goals and ambitions to signpost them to the best project for their needs.  This project could be at Generation Arts, an external partner, or another provider.
